New Delhi: Tata Motors on Wednesday teased a facelift of its compact sedan Tigor EV which will come with Ziptron electric powertrain.

In the teaser video released by the carmaker, the camouflaged Tigor EV speeds up the hill alongside Nexon EV. It also shows that the new model will come with a few exterior changes in LED DRLs and signature teal accent.

The automaker’s Ziptron technology debuted with its Nexon EV, currently the best selling electric car in India. Cars with the Ziptron powertrain come equipped with batteries with a warranty of eight years and meeting IP67 standards.

Tata Motors entered the EV market with Tigor EV as a fleet offering and expanded to the personal segment with Nexon EV to make EVs aspirational.

In 2017, Tata Motors delivered the first set of Tigor EV to the state-run Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) as a fleet vehicle deployed across various government ministries and PSUs.

In October 2019, the company introduced the Tigor EV variant for personal buyers.

Last month, the company launched a new brand called XPRES exclusively for fleet customers for both electric vehicles as well as other powertrain products starting with electric sedan XPRES-T which is a variant of the electric Tigor.

Tata Motors closed FY21 with total passenger vehicle sales of 222,025 units, up 69%, the highest growth in 8 years. Its market share of the PV business doubled from 4.8 % in FY20 to 9% in FY21. However, EVs still account for just 2% of the sales of passenger car sales from the Tata Motors stable in 2020-21, up from 1% in FY20. It’s still a long way to go.
