New Delhi: Ola Electric is gearing up for the launch of its first electric scooter for the Indian markets. The company has already started pre-bookings for this upcoming electric two-wheeler through its official website. The launch is likely to take place in the next few weeks.
The company has already recorded more than one lakh bookings within the first couple of days. The company announced the opening of bookings on July 15th at a token amount of ₹499 on its official website.
Ahead of its official debut, here are 10 things we know about the latest electric vehicle headed for the Indian markets.
Ola Electric scooters will be the first two-wheeler passenger vehicle offering from the company. The Ola Futurefactory being built in Tamil Nadu, will be the world’s largest facility for e-scooters. This is where Ola Electric will produce its upcoming electric scooters. The facility, being built across 500 acres at a cost of ₹2,400 crore, promises to produce around 2 lakh units each year once at full potential.
Ola Electric scooters are likely to be offered in three variants. New filing documents have revealed that the scooter is likely to be called Series S. The company has also filed a patent for other two names – S1 and S1 Pro that could be additional variants/trims of the two-wheeler. Chances are that ‘S1’ could also be used as the model name which would make ‘S1 Pro’ the additional trim level for the electric scooter.
The Ola Electric scooters may be based on Etergo AppScooter that is powered by a swappable high-energy-density battery. It claims to be capable of running 240 kms without the bother to recharge. However, in real world conditions, it is likely to offer a range of nearly 150 kms in single charge.
The Ola Electric scooters are likely to be powered by electric motors ranging between 3 Kw and 6 Kw motors. It likely to generate a peak torque of around 50 Nm. The top speed of the electric two-wheeler may go up to 90 kmph.
The scooter will be capable of charging in from 0 to 50% in just 18 minutes. It will require around 2 hours 30 minutes to get completely recharged. However, if plugged into a regular home charging point, the electric two-wheeler may take up to five and a half hours to reach full charge from zero.
Ola is likely to offer the electric scooter along with a home charger for its customers. It will require no installation and will allow customers to charge their vehicle at home by plugging into a regular wall socket. Ola Electric will also offer its customers with smartphone connectivity in their scooters to monitor the status of charging in real time using an Ola Electric app. Th app will also enable payment for the service.
The Ola Electric scooters is also expected to be feature-loaded. It may get the biggest-in-class boot space, app-based keyless access, dual projector headlamp, a hook for carrying luggage, split-type rear grab handles, single-piece seat, external charging port, LED DRL and taillight, a black coloured floor mat and a fully digital instrument cluster.
Ola Electric scooters will be offered in as many as 10 colour options. Some of these colour choices, like Black, White, Blue and Red, had already been confirmed but the full range of hues has now been confirmed by the company.
Ola Electric will instal a ‘Hypercharger Network’ across the country which will include one lakh charging points across 400 cities. In the first year, Ola is setting up over 5,000 charging points across 100 cities in India. This will help Ola Electric scooter owners to access charging infrastructures more easily.
Ola’s e-scooter to be priced somewhere in the range of ₹1.2 lakh to ₹1.4 lakh (ex-showroom). It will take on rivals like the Ather 450X and TVS iQube.
