Srinagar- The unemployment rate in December for Jammu and Kashmir has declined to 15 percent, as per the data revealed by Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE).
According to the CMIE, the unemployment rate in the Union Territory for the month of December, 2021 has declined to 15 percent in comparison to rate recorded at 21.2 percent in November 2021.
In September, CMIE has noted that J&K has the highest unemployment figure in the country with a gruelling rate of 21.6 percent. While in October, the unemployment rate was at 22.2 percent
The latest unemployment rate has dropped by six percent which is a positive sign.

At the beginning of 2021, J&K’s unemployment rate was 21.9 per cent which dipped to 14.2 per cent in February, 11.4 per cent in April, 12.1 per cent in May and 10.6 per cent in the month of June.
If we look at the unemployment figures for December, Jammu and Kashmir is at the fourth place in the country with a rate of 15 percent. Haryana ranks first in the country with an unemployment rate of (34.1) percent.
J&K’s unemployment rate is lower than many states including Rajasthan (27.1%), Haryana (34.1), and Jharkhand (17.3%).
Although the government has started the recruitment process for more than 40 thousand posts in 2020-21, most of them are still in the process. (Source: Kashmir Observer)
